Edsel directed “Otsego Placebo” video to debut!

edsel directed otsego placebo video

BIG news! Static-X is dropping a video for the song Otsego Placebo on 10 January! Edsel is listed as having directed the video, so I’m absolutely covering this release! We don’t have a teaser with this one like we did for Dope’s Lovesong video, unfortunately. However, we do know from past videos Edsel has directed that he 110% knocks it out of the park every single time. Edsel has done an incredible job as Static-X’s creative director. I can’t wait to see this video. I’m super excited!

Wayne Static: A Fond Memorial

wayne static

On November 1st, 2014, the music world lost a legend. Or at least, that’s what I would be saying if we were talking about anyone else but the incomparable Wayne Static. Though Wayne may be physically gone from this world, his legacy and influence have far outlived him.

A Passion for Music

Wayne Richard Wells was born on November 4th, 1965 in Muskegon, MI to Richard and Darlene Wells. His love of music started early: as a youngster, he was enthralled by the larger than life personas of the band KISS. By the age of twelve, he had started his first band with a group of neighbourhood friends. It was these first exposures to music that shaped young Wayne and cemented his determination to make music his career. He would burst onto the world stage with Static-X in 1999 with the band’s debut album Wisconsin Death Trip, leaving a lasting impression on the music scene.

Wayne Static was never one to go with the crowd. His genre defining style set trends but never followed them. Wayne’s work with Static-X spanned six studio albums, producing hits like “Cold”, “I’m With Stupid” and “Push It”. His solo outing Pighammer further solidified Wayne’s reputation as the King of Evil Disco.

A Lasting Legacy

Wayne left this world far too soon aged 48. His impact on the music industry was immense, and his legacy continues to this day. Part of his last recordings with Static-X were released with the band’s Project Regeneration Vol I in 2020, with one reviewer writing: “Static-X were ahead of their time and perhaps a little underrated. Through this cathartic process, the album serves as a love letter to Static and their loyal fan base, a respectful tribute that both honors his legacy and adds an unexpected new chapter to their discography.”

Did Wayne have any idea he would one day become such an icon? It likely never crossed his mind. Wayne did everything he did for the pure love of his craft, and the deep love he possessed for his fans.

We loved you too, Wayne. We still do. You gave us everything you had.

Thank you. For all of it.

More Dope tour news!

The highly anticipated Machine Killer tour begins tomorrow! On the eve of what promises to be a tour not to miss, we got news. Big news. The Machine Killer Tour is running through the end of February of next year! That’s right – if you haven’t gotten the chance to see Dope opening for the almighty Static-X and Sevendust, you’ve got another shot to get in on the action! We love to see it. You can find info about the extended dates right here on Dope’s official site.

If this wasn’t your sign to get tickets now, I don’t know what more to tell you. I know I’ve got mine!

Along with this incredible announcement, we were treated to a new tour poster that showcases the additional dates. You can see it below – click the poster for full size!

Dope’s official Facebook also posted a short publicizing the extended dates – click here to view it.

EDF’s Static-X Merch Roundup

Hello everybody! We’re celebrating the Machine Killer Tour here at EDF.org, so let’s continue with another Merch Roundup! Edsel is connected to Static-X as its producer and collaborator, so we’re getting them in on the Roundup just for fun.

What’s a Merch Roundup? A Merch Roundup consists of my top picks from a chosen band’s merch store. (Provided that band has some connection with Edsel Dope, of course.) And since the Machine Killer Tour is about to kick into high gear, we’re taking a look at Static-X’s merch. It was hard to narrow it down because everything was amazing, but these are my faves out of the bunch.

Disclaimer: No one is paying me for my opinions about Static-X’s merch, and I am not receiving any commissions if you buy something. This is purely my opinion, and my opinion cannot be bought. So with that out of the way, let’s get to it!

RATTA RODRIGUEZ SHIRT

Have to say, this one caught my eye big time. This is going in my cart today. I love the colours, the artwork, everything.

RATTA RODRIGUEZ MUG

Yes, we’ve already established you have way too many mugs in your cabinet. Make room for this one, your coffee deserves it.

SHOCK SYMBOL EMBROIDERED HAT

You know, I’m not a hat person normally but I could be persuaded with this one. Comes in a choice of red or grey, in trucker style or snapback.

FALKO STENGEL SHIRT

Gotta say, Static-X always kills it when it comes to artwork on their merch. This is pure perfection.

And that’s it! I hope my picks were helpful! The Machine Killer Tour promises to be amazing, and scoring awesome merch is just a bonus.

Flashback Sunday: Dope on Tour

After some thought, I’ve decided your Flashback Sunday will not be such a far flung blast from the past. Instead, I would like to highlight the upcoming Machine Killer tour – Dope is supporting Static-X and Sevendust on what promises to be a killer North American tour. I’ll see myself out.

The Machine Killer tour is getting closer and closer, and I think that’s reason to celebrate this Sunday. So we’re talking all about the tour and how you can get tickets! (By the way – I’ll be at the Atlanta stop!! You better believe I’m excited!)

Various members of Static-X were quoted saying that they’re bringing new production elements, giving fans something to look forward to from the headliners. From what I’ve seen of their shows on the Rise of the Machine tour… I have to say they were already spectacular, so colour me hyped.

No news as of yet on what we can expect from Dope, but really… when do they NOT bring the house down? As any long term fan can attest, there’s no energy quite like Dope when they take the stage. Guys, these are shows you won’t want to miss. So the only thing left? Buying your tickets!

Tickets are still available, but they’re sure to sell out fast if the Rise of the Machine tour is anything to go by. Score some at Dope’s official site while you still can.

We’re flashing back to Dope’s first short on Youtube promoting the Machine Killer tour. Personally, I’d love for them to post more of these!

New Youtube Short: Machine Killer Tour

I’m just comin’ at you with updates today. Earlier we were greeted with the news that Dope’s joining Static-X and Sevendust on the Machine Killer North American Tour, and now we have a new short on Youtube from Dope’s official account publicizing this tour. (This is actually the first short they’ve posted, hopefully this is the first of many? We’ll see!)

Check out the short here, and to visit Dope’s Youtube page click here. If you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe and ring the bell so that you get ALL post notifications!

Tour News: A surprise, to be sure…

But a welcome one! The Machine Killer North American tour is coming, and you better believe we are stoked.

Dope is touring with the almighty Static-X once again in the fall, and joining them for this go-round is Sevendust! Not the headlining tour we were expecting, but with this lineup I think it’s going to be pretty fucking rad.

For complete details, check out Dope’s official site.

Rise of the Machine Tour Recap

Over on Static-X’s official YouTube channel, the band released a Rise of the Machine North American Tour 2023 recap. This is definitely a must watch – this tour looked incredible. As of this posting, Dope has not released a similar video (if they intend to at all), but I will keep my eye out.
