This is always kind of a hard question to answer. Obviously, Dope is my favourite band. So why not just make a Dope fansite? Why Edsel in particular?
I’ve always admired Edsel. He inspires me, and because of him, I want to reach new heights in my creative pursuits. Personally, I believe Edsel is an innovator and trailblazer. Here’s one example: you know stuff like visual albums that seem to be a buzzword lately? He was doing that way back in 2003, before the advent of Youtube and streaming services. Edsel is truly an original – I don’t believe anyone surpasses or even equals him in terms of bringing exactly what he brings to the table. It’s that certain something you can’t quite put your finger on. A star quality that others simply do not possess.
Which brings us back to the original question. Why devote a website to him? Sadly, Edsel is almost tragically underrepresented on the internet. Of course there’s dopetheband.com and their social media presence, but not much else. When I made edseldopefan.org, there was no real fan run resource out there supporting Edsel and his career. I have a background in graphic design, web development and social media, so I felt I could step up. Thus, I created this website! Really, the long and short of it is that I wanted to give back to a man who has served as my muse. Sorry it isn’t a more interesting story. /shrug
